  • Fraud Attempts on behalf of Hu’u Project, Vale and PT Sumbawa Timur Mining are Rising Again

The public is urged to be alert and reconfirm to STM

Sumbawa, April 2023: PT Sumbawa Timur Mining (STM) advises the public to remain cautious of individuals or entities claiming to be affiliated with or having working relationships (directly or indirectly) with STM and its parent company (in this case, Vale) concerning the mineral mining exploration activities currently conducted by STM in Dompu and Bima Regencies, West Nusa Tenggara Province, based on a Contract of Work and other relevant permits (the Hu’u Project).

As may be known, various forms of communication materials have circulated widely among the public, including letters, handbooks, the use of logos, announcements (through social media or other means), which falsely appear to represent or have connections with the Hu’u Project. These communications relate to the procurement of goods and services, workforce recruitment, and land acquisition for the Hu’u Project.

In relation to the above, the management of STM has identified several companies that are suspected, and unlawfully, misrepresent STM (including Vale) by disseminating false and irresponsible information to the general public. The companies in question include PT Abdi Karya Usaha Raya (AKUR), STM Vale Hu’u – Vale Global Group (STM VH VGG), PT Main Cone Vale Global, PT Vale GG, and PT SVH – VGG.

“We remind the public that the mentioned companies have no direct or indirect affiliations with the Hu’u Project, STM, or Vale,” stated Cindy Elza, Principal Communication of STM.

The management of STM also affirms that STM is the sole holder of a Contract of Work legally recognized by the Government (both Central and Regional) to exclusively carry out the development of the Hu’u Project.

“We urge the public not to easily believe in any form of investment offers related to the Hu’u Project that do not originate from official sources of STM. Be sure to verify any offers, either by contacting STM or through other means,” Cindy informed.

Therefore, Cindy noted that STM provides a helpline for the public who wish to confirm or report fraudulent activities misrepresenting STM and Vale, through the email address infoSTM1@vale.com or by contacting the STM Community Relations Team in Project Hu’u Staging at Hu’u District.

In conclusion, Cindy added that “STM will not hesitate to use all available legal measures under applicable laws to protect the legal interests of STM against any individuals, companies, or entities intentionally and unlawfully creating an impression among the general public that their business activities are related or associated with the development activities of the Hu’u Project, which is currently legally conducted by STM and its parent company (Vale).

Dompu, 23 March 2023 – PT Sumbawa Timur Mining (STM) provided assistance to fulfill the clean water needs of residents of Marada Village, Hu’u District in the form of water well and facilitation of the formation of clean water management institutions so that the availability of clean water for residents can be managed properly and sustainably.

The handover of the clean water facilities was conducted by Didit Susiyanto, representing the management of STM, to the District Chief of Hu’u, Muhammad Iswan, SKM at the borehole location in Ompu Mbeka Hamlet, Marada Village, Hu’u District, on Wednesday (22/3/2023). Also present were the Head of Marada Village, Abdullah Idris, the Clean Water Manager of Marada Village, Sudirman, along with local youth leaders and residents.

Didit Susiyanto stated that the handover of the clean water well facility is a manifestation of STM’s commitment to growing and developing alongside the community through its empowerment programs.

“We hope that the clean water well facilities can address the issue of clean water access for the residents of Marada Village. Now, water is readily available, and the infrastructure is in place. In the past, people might have had to travel quite a distance to collect water, but now it is distributed to their homes,” he said.

He expressed hope that through the construction of these clean water facilities, the community can show their support for the presence of STM, enabling the company to further empower the local residents and utilize the shared potential.

Meanwhile, Hu’u District Head Muhammad Iswan, SKM welcomed the handover of clean water facilities to the residents of Marada Village and stated that STM has made a significant contribution to the empowerment and development of Hu’u in various areas.

“PT STM’s contribution to health, education, empowerment, and public facilities has been quite a lot done by PT STM. Likewise in the field of agriculture with environmentally friendly plants (organic plants). I even participated in the harvest together in Daha yesterday,” he said.

Head of Marada Village, Abdullah Idris, on the other hand, expressed his gratitude and thanks because STM’s assistance has made clean water accessible to the residents. The water is now directly distributed to each household, which is a form of care by the company after witnessing the difficulties the Marada residents faced with clean water following the damage to the water source pipes during the floods in early 2021.

He also urged the residents to continue supporting STM so that it can continue its activities and empowerment programs. “In Marada, there is no more water scarcity. This is extraordinary. Unlike before, where one water tank was shared by the entire village,” he said.

The clean water provided by STM is managed by the Marada Village government through an institution established by the village government. The water is directly supplied to the residents’ homes and is equipped with water meters. Residents are charged Rp. 20,000 per household (KK) for maintenance and incentives for the staff. This cost is much lower than when based on water consumption.

Content Significant Copper and Small Amount of Gold

Jakarta, 21 April 2022 – PT Sumbawa Timur Mining (STM) announced today a newly concluded mineral resource estimate of the Onto copper-gold deposit in Nusa Tenggara Barat Province. The mineral resource estimate, which was completed in December 2021, reported a total 2.1 billion tonnes (Bt) with each ton containing 0.86% of copper and 0.48 gram of gold. Details of these updated mineral resources estimated as follows: total Indicated mineral resource of 1.1 billion tonnes (Bt) @ 0.96% Cu and 0.58 g/t Au and a total Inferred mineral resource of approximately 1.0 Bt @ 0.7% Cu and 0.4 g/t Au.

The first public announcement of the Onto Deposit mineral resource estimate in December 2019 reported a total Inferred mineral resource of 0.76 Bt @ 0.93% Cu and 0.56 g/t Au and a total Inferred mineral resource of 0.96 Bt @ 0.87% Cu and 0.44 g/t Au. This represents an increase in the size of the Onto deposit of 0.4 Bt or equivalent to >20% since the announcement of the first resource estimate.

The Onto deposit is part of STM’s Hu’u Project, which is a 7th generation Contract of Work (CoW) entered into with the Government of Indonesia on 19 February 1998 located in Dompu and Bima Regencies in Nusa Tenggara Barat. STM is majority owned (80%) by Vale S.A., through Eastern Star Resources Pty Ltd, and Antam Tbk (20%).

Bede Evans, President Director of STM said, “This latest mineral resource estimate strengthener view that the Onto deposit has the potential to be developed into a world-class copper mining operation. The increase in the Onto mineral resource by 0.4 Bt is the result of the effort, support and commitment of the Hu’u Project team over the last two years. This provides the STM shareholders and the STM team with cautious optimism as we enter into more advanced stages of project development .”

STM has conducted exploration activities within the Hu’u Project CoW since 2010. The mineral resource estimate is based on 74 holes, with a total length of 74,130 meters, drilled into the Onto deposit. Drilling will continue in 2022 and beyond to support studies to further define the size, extent and characteristics of the mineral resource and provide input to engineering studies. In total, STM has completed 108 drill holes (115,591 meters) within the CoW (at Onto and other prospects) since exploration began in 2010.

Mr Evans continued, “Whilst we are very pleased to report an increase of the Onto deposit mineral resource, much work remains to be undertaken to assess technical, environmental, social and financial factors as part of our ongoing feasibility studies. Ultimately, it is our hope that these feasibility studies will define a technically and economically viable mining operation for STM to take into further development.”

Hashari Kamaruddin, Director of STM, reaffirmed his confidence in the Hu’u Project, “I am very pleased with the progress of the Hu’u Project and the new mineral resource statement announced today. The strong collaborative relationship between the STM shareholders and the solid support from the Government of Indonesia and Government of West Nusa Tenggara Province gives us confidence that the Hu’u Project has the potential to be a significant mining operation in Indonesia.”

STM is currently undertaking feasibility studies aimed at further mineral resource definition and to assess hydrogeological, geothermal, and geotechnical characteristics of the deposit. Several technical challenges need to be overcome as part of the feasibility studies in order to confirm that the Onto deposit and Hu’u Project can be developed into a world-class underground mining operation.
