Lombok, September 16th 2023 – PT Sumbawa Timur Mining (STM), owner of the Hu’u Project 7th generation Contract of Work (CoW) in Dompu Regency, West Nusa Tenggara is holding a series of seminars and mini workshops in the cities of Mataram, Makassar and Yogyakarta. This event is targeting students from Dompu Regency who are pursuing higher education in the cities. The aim of this activity is to provide students with broader insight about various opportunities and career choices after they graduate from college.

“This activity is facilitated by the Persolkelly Human Resources (HR) development agency. The facilitators help develop students’ soft skills as preparations for entering the business world or the world of work,” said PT STM Principal Communication, Cindy Elza, on Saturday (9/16).

In addition to providing career insight, the company will also use this event to disseminate information regarding the Hu’u Project. This will provide students with a deeper understanding of various aspects of the Hu’u Project, which is still in the exploration phase.

This activity was first held in Mataram City on Saturday, September 16 2023. Similar activities will be held in Makassar City on October 5 2023, and Yogyakarta in November 2023.

In Mataram, the seminar and mini workshop ‘Yang Muda Yang Siap Kerja’ (Young People Ready to Work) takes place at the Aston Inn Hotel , where 50 students from Dompu take part in this activity.

Cindy explained that this socialization was a form of disclosure of company information.

“We want students to get the right information regarding the Hu’u Project. The information provided includes a general overview of exploration and various aspects and their impact on society, including aspects of employment, environmental management, business opportunities and community development,” he said.

According to her, these students will soon enter the competitive labor market. There are also those who want to return to their hometown and are very interested in joining STM.

“However, as an educated group, students need to understand that the ratio between the availability of job opportunities and the number of job seekers is not always balanced. We hope that after returning from this activity, students will have increased insight into the various career options they can choose after graduating from college, as well as how to achieve them. “In this way, they will be better prepared to compete and develop their abilities in whatever industry they are interested in,” she said.

The expert from Persolkelly, Christina Nangoi, added that this provision begins by helping participants understand their goals and career choices that can be taken based on their respective interests and abilities. Then proceed with helping participants understand the three main skills that workers need to have, namely in terms of character, functional and technical.

“We guide participants to create self-marketing tools in the form of concise and attractive personal resumes. Apart from that, facilitators also share tips and tricks related to the use of digital technology in accessing various information about job opportunities and conducting interviews,” she said.

PT Sumbawa Timur Mining Implement Energy Efficiency Management for Environmental Protection at Hu’u Project

Some of the company’s energy efficiency initiatives have reduced carbon gas emissions

Sumbawa, May 2023: PT Sumbawa Timur Mining (STM), the owner of Contract of Work of the Hu’u Project in Dompu Regency, West Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia, is implementing energy efficiency management as part of its commitment to sustainable mining practices. PT STM recognizes the importance of environmental management and monitoring efforts to maintain a balanced ecosystem around the exploration area.

President Director of PT STM, Bede Evans said that any development, for whatever purpose, will potentially have impacts on the environment. PT STM is therefore committed to ensuring that work at the Hu’u Project is carried out to high environmental standards.

“We see ourselves as part of the community and as contributors to progress and prosperity. Our consistent efforts to protect the environment around our exploration areas demonstrate the high priority we place on responsible and sustainable mining practices,” said Bede Evans.

Among the energy efficiency management strategies that PT STM has implemented include the use of solar panels for supplementary power sources and replacement of lamp types for lighting efficiency. In its energy efficiency efforts, the company noted that PT STM’s use of solar panels has reduced carbon emissions by 75 tons of CO2eq.

Evans said that although PT STM’s activities at the moment are still limited to exploration and mining activities, the company’s energy efficiency efforts have been implemented.

    Water Management and Air Quality

Meanwhile, to maintain surface water quality, PT STM has taken various measures including strict monitoring of water usage. Every three months, various tests are conducted at 38 separate surface water, groundwater and seawater locations to determine the water quality at these test points.  Water quality monitoring, testing and analysis are conducted by independent and accredited laboratories.

PT STM also runs a Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) and the fuel storage site, effluent storage site, and generator site are protected by impermeable barriers to safeguard the surrounding areas from contamination. While these measures are in line with a comprehensive approach to maintaining water quality, a long-term assessment of the Hu’u Project’s water vulnerability was also conducted and this will inform the development of a more in-depth clean water support program.

In terms of air quality management and monitoring, PT STM has undertaken several measures such as irrigating the helipad area, routinely maintaining emissions from operational equipment and vehicles, and undertaking necessary dust abatement measures. PT STM also regularly monitors and measures the concentration of air pollutants such as heavy metals and particulate matter generated by exploration activities to maintain air quality in accordance with recognized environmental standards.

These communications relate to the procurement of goods and services, workforce recruitment, and land acquisition for the Hu’u Project.

In relation to the above, the management of STM has identified several companies that are suspected, and unlawfully, misrepresent STM (including Vale) by disseminating false and irresponsible information to the general public. The companies in question include PT Abdi Karya Usaha Raya (AKUR), STM Vale Hu’u – Vale Global Group (STM VH VGG), PT Main Cone Vale Global, PT Vale GG, and PT SVH – VGG.

“We remind the public that the mentioned companies have no direct or indirect affiliations with the Hu’u Project, STM, or Vale,” stated Cindy Elza, Principal Communication of STM.

The management of STM also affirms that STM is the sole holder of a Contract of Work legally recognized by the Government (both Central and Regional) to exclusively carry out the development of the Hu’u Project.

“We urge the public not to easily believe in any form of investment offers related to the Hu’u Project that do not originate from official sources of STM. Be sure to verify any offers, either by contacting STM or through other means,” Cindy informed.

Therefore, Cindy noted that STM provides a helpline for the public who wish to confirm or report fraudulent activities misrepresenting STM and Vale, through the email address infoSTM1@vale.com or by contacting the STM Community Relations Team in Project Hu’u Staging at Hu’u District.

In conclusion, Cindy added that “STM will not hesitate to use all available legal measures under applicable laws to protect the legal interests of STM against any individuals, companies, or entities intentionally and unlawfully creating an impression among the general public that their business activities are related or associated with the development activities of the Hu’u Project, which is currently legally conducted by STM and its parent company (Vale).

PT. Sumbawa Timur Mining Onto Copper-Gold Deposit in Sumbawa, Indonesia, extended more than 500m vertically by recent drilling

Jakarta, Indonesia: 22 October 2020. PT Sumbawa Timur Mining (STM or the Company) announces the assay results from VHD096; a 2,042.72m vertical drill hole into the Onto deposit. The assay results confirm that the Onto deposit extends >500m below the previously-defined depth of mineralization. With assay results having successfully undergone comprehensive quality assurance/quality control processes, STM is pleased to report a 1,594.7m intercept grading @ 1.00% Cu and 0.40g/t Au. This includes an outstanding intercept of 100m grading @ 5.99 % Cu and 1.11 g/t Au.

On 19 February 2020, the Company announced the discovery of the Onto copper-gold deposit, a world-class discovery that positions the Company to be a leading copper producer in Indonesia. STM is the owner of the Hu’u Project 7th generation Contract of Work (CoW) in Nusa Tenggara Barat Province (Indonesia). The Company is a joint venture between Eastern Star Resources Pty Ltd (80%), a 100%-owned subsidiary of Vale SA, and PT Antam Tbk (20%).

President Director of STM, Mr Bede Evans, emphasized the Company’s excitement with the results. “We are extremely enthused by the results from VHD096. It was a challenging drill hole and was achieved through the hard work of our dedicated staff and contractors. We’re very much now focused on assessing the opportunities presented by these results”.

Coinciding with the release of the results from VHD096, the Company also received impressive assay results from VHD091 (a 1,420.2m drill hole into the south-west part of the deposit from the same drill pad). VHD091 intercepted 1,010.2m grading @ 1.11% Cu and 0.84 g/t Au. This includes an intercept of 318.0m grading @ 1.81% Cu and 1.32 g/t Au.

STM Vice-President Director, Mr Bronto Sutopo, reaffirmed the excitement of STM and its shareholders, “The results from VHD096 and VHD091 present numerous opportunities for STM. We are encouraged by the strong collaborative relationship developed with the Government of Indonesia and believe these results provide a solid foundation for the continued development of the Hu’u Project.”

The significance of the Onto deposit and Hu’u Project to the mining industry in Indonesia was recently reflected with STM being awarded Best Exploration Expenditure, Best Discovery and Best in Class by the Association of Indonesian Geologists (IAGI) during their IAGI Awards 2020. STM Director of Operations, Mr James Connolly, emphasized the significance of the three IAGI Awards: “It’s a proud moment for the STM team and the shareholders to be awarded such prestigious accolades. We thank IAGI for this recognition and thank the STM team, past and present, who contributed to the Onto deposit discovery and the operation of the Hu’u Project.”

STM also confirmed that site operations have recommenced following a temporary suspension of operations due the coronavirus pandemic. As Bede Evans stated, “We undertook a number of measures in March and April 2020 to temporarily slow down our operations. Through our close working relationship with the Dompu Regency government, we are remobilizing our staff and contractors to the Hu’u Project site.”
