Dompu, February 4, 2025— PT Sumbawa Timur Mining (STM) has enhanced its preparedness for fire emergencies through training on the use of fire extinguishers (Alat Pemadam Api Ringan or APAR). The training, held at the Hu’u Site on Tuesday (February 4), was initiated by the Health, Safety, and Risk (HSR) Department as part of the 2025 National Occupational Safety and Health Month (BK3N) commemoration. STM employees and their business partners participated in this training.
STM’s Acting Head of Mining Engineering (Pjs KTT), Yek Sahil, emphasized that employees must be able to use fire extinguishers to prevent fires from escalating. “Today, as part of the National OSH Month activities, we’re conducting awareness training on how to use fire extinguishers and fire blankets. The goal is for employees to be able to apply these tools effectively when encountering fires in the workplace,” he stated.
The training was divided into two sessions. The first was a theoretical session delivered by Emergency Response Team (ERT) representative, Dedy Julkarnain. In this session, participants learned about the different types of fires, proper use of fire extinguishers, and case studies related to industrial fire incidents. This foundational knowledge equips individuals to respond quickly and accurately during emergency situations.
In the second session, participants practiced extinguishing fires using fire extinguishers and fire blankets. This hands-on session was guided by ERT and HSR representatives, including Dedy Julkarnain, Supriyadin, and Pongky Koernianing Basuki. Each participant had the opportunity to practice proper fire-extinguishing techniques, ensuring they acquired the necessary skills to handle emergency situations effectively.
One of the participants, Priyo Pratama, shared his positive impression of the training. “This training is very useful for us, especially in understanding how to properly use a fire extinguisher. At first, I felt a bit nervous, but after the hands-on practice, I became more confident in handling fire emergencies. The knowledge gained here is not only applicable at work but also useful in daily life,” he said.
Through this training, STM aims to create a safer and lower-risk work environment. STM remains committed to raising awareness and enhancing the emergency response capabilities of all its employees and business partners, in line with the company’s mission to foster a safe, secure, and sustainable workplace.
