  • Sumbawa Timur Mining Wins Two IABC Indonesia Communication Awards

Jakarta, December 14, 2024— PT Sumbawa Timur Mining (STM) successfully won two communication award categories at the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Indonesia Awards 2024. The two awards include the Top 10 and Awards of Excellence in the Impactful Communications Awards (ICOMMA) category, subcategory Best Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), as well as the Awards of Merit in the Impactful Public Relations Awards (IMPRA) category, subcategory Best Digital Public Relations.

IABC Indonesia is part of the IABC, headquartered in Chicago, USA. IABC has been around for over 50 years and has representatives in more than 80 countries with around 5,000 members who are professionals in business communication, public relations, and corporate communication across sectors. The IABC Award strengthens the credibility of organizations and practitioners in these sectors and reinforces global recognition.

The ICOMMA DEI subcategory award evaluates communication activities that highlight messages of diversity, equity, and inclusion. STM won this award thanks to its communication campaign titled “STM Inclusive Women Program: Fostering Gender Diversity and Equality in Copper Gold Exploration Project.” This campaign is based on STM’s aspiration to create a work environment that provides equal opportunities without gender discrimination.

STM’s equality message was conveyed through digital communication channels, print media, and direct activities involving employees. This comprehensive communication strategy resulted in STM achieving a 90 percent positive response rate on its social media channels. This strategy also contributed to the employment of women at STM, which now stands at 25 percent—higher than the global mining industry average of 8-17 percent (McKinsey, 2021).

Meanwhile, the IMPRA category award for Best Digital Public Relations focuses on communication activities involving digital channels. STM’s communication campaign titled “Digital PR: Copper and Gold Exploration Project” was selected as the winner of this category due to the effectiveness of its messaging. STM was recognized for successfully utilizing digital communication channels to deliver relevant, humanistic, engaging, and transparent messages about its exploration activities.

Principal Communications STM, Cindy Elza, stated that these awards reinforce STM’s commitment to inclusivity within its work environment and its adaptability to technological advancements in information management. This recognition also motivates STM to continue striving for better, sustainable achievements.

“Diversity, equity, and inclusion are integral elements in STM’s activities. We strive to raise awareness among our internal and external audiences about this commitment while continuously strengthening its implementation. We also view the development of digital technology as an opportunity to deliver our messages accurately and positively,” said Cindy.

PT STM Scholarship Recipient Wins National Economic Geology Competition

Dompu, December 6, 2024 — M. Darmansyah Putra, a recipient of the PT Sumbawa Timur Mining (STM) merit scholarship, has successfully won the Student Research Poster Contest (SRPC) 2024. The competition was hosted by the Indonesian Society of Economic Geologists (MGEI) as part of the MGEI Annual Convention 2024, held in Padang, West Sumatra, from December 2–4, 2024. The objective of the event was to provide students with an opportunity to present their research findings through the medium of scientific posters.

The research topics featured in the SRPC focused on economic geology, including mineral exploration, mining, and geological resources. This year’s SRPC was attended by 15 participants representing various universities across Indonesia. One of the participants was Darmansyah, a student of Geological Engineering at the University of AKPRIND Indonesia. Darmansyah presented his research, entitled “Characteristic and Paragenesis of Porphyry Copper Deposits in Sidomulyo, Trenggalek, East Java: Multiple Intrusions, Hydrothermal Alteration, and Vein Association.”

The panel of judges, consisting of experts in economic geology, selected Darmansyah’s work as the best in the SRPC 2024. “I am extremely pleased to have won this competition. I was surprised to find myself outperforming students from well-known universities, particularly in the field of mineral exploration geology,” said Darmansyah, a young man from Daha Village, Hu’u District, Dompu Regency, West Nusa Tenggara Province.

This achievement marks a significant milestone for University of AKPRIND Indonesia, as Darmansyah has made history. He expressed his gratitude to all those who supported him throughout his academic journey. “I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to all those who have supported my education, especially PT Sumbawa Timur Mining, which has helped offset the cost of my studies in Geological Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, University of AKPRIND Indonesia,” he stated.

Darmansyah shared his excitement about participating in MGEI activities, noting that the event was more than just a competition—it was also a valuable networking opportunity with experts in economic geology. “I hope that the achievements and valuable experiences, especially in the field of economic mineral exploration, will help me build a successful career after graduation,” he said.

The alumnus of SMAN 01 Hu’u also shared a message with students from his hometown, encouraging them to stay motivated in pursuing their education. “Never stop learning and unlocking your potential. The future belongs to those who dare to dream, work hard, and learn from every challenge. Make the most of the opportunities around you. Believe in your abilities. No one succeeds without facing failures along the way,” he emphasized.

PT STM’s Community Relations Manager, Ulya Defretes, expressed pride and joy at Darmansyah’s success in this prestigious national competition. “We are part of the Dompu community and take great pride when young talents from here achieve remarkable things. We are committed to continuously supporting the best talents from Dompu to grow and thrive. May Darmansyah’s success inspire his peers to strive for excellence,” he concluded.
